By popular demand, the Australia Japan Business Council (AJBC) WA is delighted to once again host its WA-Japan Sundowner Series event.

We warmly invite you to join us for a winter drink at Perth’s very own award-winning distillery, Whipper Snapper as we celebrate an exciting year ahead for AJBC in 2026!

Reception on board the JS Shirase

It was a great honour to attend the reception on board the JS Shirase on 7 April during her recent visit to Fremantle Harbour.

Hosted by the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth on behalf of Captain Tsuyoshi Iwase, Commanding Officer of JS Shirase, the evening provided a unique opportunity to experience one of Japan’s remarkable vessels supporting Antarctic research and international cooperation.

Set against the iconic backdrop of Victoria Quay in Fremantle, the event brought together distinguished guests from government, business, and the wider community—reflecting the strength and depth of the Australia–Japan relationship.

Having successfully completed a six-month mission, Shirase and her crew are now on their return journey to Japan. Wishing them a safe and smooth voyage home!

Australia – Japan Sports Exchange

The Australia Japan Business Council WA supported UWA Judo Club’s hosting of 15 Komazawa University High School Judoka from Dec 22nd to Jan 4th. The experience included 6 Judo practises held at UWA, home stays with local Judo Club families and some Australian experiences including a 2 night farm experience.

This exchange has been active for 35 years after Stockley Davis and Peter Swan visited Japan, after graduating at UWA, in 1991.

AJBC WA Deputy Chair, Ms Mayumi Laughton-Smith, acknowledged the “ mutual benefits of sports exchange between Australia and Japan, and the positive impacts on individuals involved in these experiences. “
